TRIBUTES HAVE BEEN after a young boy died while waiting for a heart transplant in England.
Gavin Coyne passed away yesterday while awaiting surgery in Freeman Hospital Newcastle.
The 10-year-old Dubliner was diagnosed with a rare heart condition in late-November of last year and admitted to Children’s Hospital Crumlin.
He had undergone a number of procedures while in hospital and was awaiting an organ donation.
However, Gavin passed away last night in hospital while waiting for the transplant.
His family was by his side.
“Gavin lost his battle yesterday and gained his angel’s wings,” wrote his cousin Amy Coyne, who had set up a GoFundMe page to help support the family while they were in England.
RIP to such a beautiful brave boy.
Gavin was a 4th class student at the Holy Trinity School SNS in Donaghmede in Dublin.
The school parents’ association paid to Gavin today on its Facebook page.
“Gavin faced his illness with great bravery but unfortunately he lost his fight yesterday,” the association said.
“For a very young man, Gavin has left an impact on all those who had the pleasure to make his acquaintance.
We ask you to keep Gavin’s family, friends and classmates in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
